| 5-for-6 Day for Martinez | Today at Ballpark of Naperville HS, Pedro Martinez put on an impressive display.
The Naperville HS Black Jacks right fielder tagged Portland HS pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Portland HS Vultures by the score of 12-11.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Martinez said. "5-for-6 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Black Jacks manager was unwilling to offer his right fielder much praise, saying he holds his "whole roster" accountable for losses.
"Pedro told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Joel Skinner said.
Pedro Martinez singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.\n
Looking at his present stats, Martinez has compiled a .273 batting average in 14 games with a .429 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 4 runs. | |
