Austin beat San Juan on the strength of starter Jon Gray's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-2 win. Gray, now 3-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Wade Davis earned his 11th save in 11 tries.

In the top of the third inning, third baseman Matt Carpenter came through big-time for the Bats. With Austin leading 1-0, he belted a 2-run home run.

"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Don Dinsmore. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."

The Rough Riders have now dropped 5 straight.
