Choppers Pin 3-1 Loss on Rough Riders
|
Connecticut pitcher Vincent Velasquez did his part in helping his team beat the San Juan Rough Riders, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Connecticut reliever Jake Diekman got the win, raising his record to 1-2. Keegan Thompson was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Craig Kimbrel, his 11th.
Connecticut took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Corey D. Ray hit a clutch solo home run to bring Choppers fans to their feet.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Velasquez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The 'W' lifts Connecticut's record to 28-19.
