Erie second baseman Wilmer Flores had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to Eugene at Blue Wings Ballpark. Flores was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Eugene reliever Chasen Shreve picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jake Barrett was saddled with the loss. Hector Estrada got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when left fielder Christian Yelich, who is tied for 5th in the EL in doubles with 4, drew a walk. The Emeralds went on to win.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Erie manager Terry Francona, "let me know."
The win moves Eugene to a record of 5-6.
