| Choppers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Emeralds | Connecticut pitcher Shelby Miller did his part in helping his team beat the Eugene Emeralds, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. J.J. Hoover got credit for the win, improving to 4-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Craig Kimbrel sewed up the save, his 20th.
Had Yoenis Cespedes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Cespedes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Choppers.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Miller told the Connecticut News.
The Choppers now own a record of 58-48.
