Choppers Sink Gators, 9-1 | The Connecticut Choppers faced a tough opponent in Florida pitcher Clayton Kershaw, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 9-1. Kershaw went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Shelby Miller, the winner, improved to 9-13. He held the Gators to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 4. Seth Maness got the save, the 4th for him this season.
The Choppers got a big at-bat from center fielder Corey D. Ray. For the game, Ray was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 19th double of the season gave Connecticut a 2-1 lead.
