Yelich, who is tied for 5th in the EL with a .381 on-base percentage, went 3-5 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Emeralds. Kyle Funkhouser was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Eugene, now 74-86, holds third place in the Eastern League South East Divison.
Had Justin Turner not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Turner hit a 2-run double. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Emeralds.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Turner told the Eugene Observer.
