Reapers Best Blue Jays in Pitching Duel | Winnipeg got a terrific performance from pitcher Sonny Gray, but it wasn't enough to beat the Regina Reapers. Regina won the Sailfish Ballpark contest, 1-0. Gray was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 9 innings of 5-hit ball. Luis Severino got the win, improving to 14-8. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Hansel Robles was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities.
The Reapers beat the Blue Jays in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out double Jose Ramirez produced in the top of the sixth. Batting against Winnipeg pitcher Sonny Gray, Ramirez gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring double.
"We take it day by day here," said Ramirez, "and today was a good one for us."
Regina leads the Western League South West Divison by 5½ games.
