| Choppers Pin 4-2 Loss on Schooners | Connecticut center fielder Corey D. Ray made his presence felt in the 4-2 Choppers triumph over the Avon Lake Schooners. Ray was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Will Smith in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Joe Ross took the loss. The win brings the Choppers to 16-11, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Ray came through with some timely hitting for Connecticut. With the score 1-1 in the top of the fifth and no one down, Ray hit a 0-2 slider for a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season made it 3-1, Connecticut.
Avon Lake manager Jon Oliver said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
