Bats Turn Back Nashua, 7-6 | Nashua got a terrific performance from designated hitter Andre Ethier, but it wasn't enough to beat the Austin Bats. Austin won the Ballpark of Brooklyn contest, 7-6. Ethier was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Austin starter Jon Gray was credited with the win after throwing 115 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 5-5. Wade Davis, credited with the save, is now 13 for 13 in save opportunities.
Buddy Reed, who is tied for 4th in the WL in triples with 4, aided the Austin cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the center fielder was 1 for 2 with a triple and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times.
In postgame comments to the Austin Observer, Reed said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Austin improves to 33-27 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.
