| Home Field Advantage: Kershaw, Florida Open Round 2 with Win | The Florida Gators started the Round 2 in style today, downing the visiting Erie Seawolves at Yankee Stadium by a score of 6-5 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Gators left-hander Clayton Kershaw was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings allowing 3 runs.
Had Didi Gregorius not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Gregorius hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 6-3, in favor of the Gators.
"Clayton is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Florida manager Steve Strzepek .
Game 2 is set to be played on Sunday, October 29th, 2017 at Yankee Stadium. Slated to start are Patrick Corbin for Erie and Clayton Kershaw for Florida.
