| Bats Fall to Freedom, 5-3 | The Mississippi Freedom had to overcome a big game from Austin center fielder Buddy Reed to leave Ballpark of Brooklyn with a 5-3 victory. Reed was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Morgan Cooper, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Bats to 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 4. Mike Morin recorded the save for Mississippi, his 21st of the season.
Tied up with the Bats in the top of the fifth inning, the Freedom got a boost from catcher Christian Vazquez. With the bases empty, Vazquez saw a first pitch fastball from Jake J. Thompson and hit a solo home run to break the stalemate and put Mississippi on top, 3-2.
"I'm proud to wear a Mississippi jersey," Vazquez told the Mississippi Observer. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
Mississippi is third in the Western League South West Divison with a record of 53-42.
