| Severino Handcuffs Bats, Reapers Seize 1-0 Advantage in Round 1 | The Regina Reapers powered past the hometown Austin Bats, 5-1, in the opener of the Round 1 at Ballpark of Brooklyn today. Regina starting pitcher Luis Severino threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Reapers now lead the series 1-0.
The Reapers beat the Bats in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Jose Ramirez produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Austin pitcher Gerrit Cole, Ramirez gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Severino.
Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday, October 6th, 2019 at Ballpark of Brooklyn. Slated to start are Hisashi Iwakuma for Regina and Michael Pineda for Austin.
