Pineda Handcuffs Reapers, Bats Seize 2-1 Advantage in Round 1 | The Austin Bats silenced the Regina Reapers today to move within one game of the Round 2. The Bats shut out the Reapers by a final score of 3-0 at Mosaic Stadium. Austin right-hander Michael Pineda was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Bats a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
The Bats beat the Reapers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Mark Trumbo produced in the top of the fourth. Batting against Regina pitcher Robbie Ray, Trumbo gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"I got everyone together and told them they did great today," Austin manager Trey Bats told BNN reporters after the game. "But I warned them that even if we make it out of the Round 1, it's only going to get harder."
The next game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 at Mosaic Stadium. Slated to start are Jake J. Thompson for the Bats and Hyun-jin Ryu for the Reapers.
