Schooners Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0

The Avon Lake Schooners moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Fairview MuckDogs at Casterly Rock by a score of 5-3. Schooners left-hander Steven Matz was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Schooners a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

It could have been a different outcome for Avon Lake, had it not been for Buster Posey, the 32-year old catcher . Posey contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Avon Lake up, 5-3.

"This was a good win," said Matz.

The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 at Stars Stadium. Slated to start are Joe Ross for Avon Lake and Michael Wacha for Fairview.
