| Home Field Advantage: Kershaw, Florida Open Round 1 with Win | The Florida Gators started the Round 1 in style today, downing the visiting Erie Seawolves at Yankee Stadium by a score of 6-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Gators left-hander Clayton Kershaw was named player of the game after he threw 7 innings allowing 3 runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, designated hitter J.D. Martinez came through big-time for the Gators. With Florida leading 4-3, he belted a solo home run.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Martinez told the Florida Daily.
Game 2 is set to be played on Sunday, October 6th, 2019 at Yankee Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Stephen Strasburg for the Seawolves and Clayton Kershaw for the Gators.
