| Gators Nip Schooners, 3-2 | Florida Gators starter Corey Kluber pitched a strong game against the Avon Lake Schooners at Yankee Stadium, leading the Gators to a 3-2 win. Kluber picked up the win for Florida, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 7-6. Antonio Bastardo sewed up the save, his 1st.
The Gators beat the Schooners in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Cameron Maybin produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Avon Lake pitcher Julio Urias, Maybin gave his team a 3-2 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Maybin told the Florida Bulletin.
Florida is now 56-48, Avon Lake 64-40.
