Bengtson Bombs 3 HR Against Birmingham Monday, August 3rd, 2020 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Mike Bengtson swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Miners Ballpark, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Birmingham Miners were better. The Jupiter Hammerheads couldn't capitalize on the big game from Bengtson and dropped the contest 9-8. The mood in the Hammerheads clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Miners to spoil the day for Bengtson. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Jupiter manager Bill Haselman said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Bengtson collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Jupiter right fielder told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Mike Bengtson hit a solo-shot off Brandon Archie in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Brandon Archie in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Luis Medina in the 4th, walked in the 6th and walked in the 9th. This year Bengtson is batting .273 with 6 home runs. He has scored 11 runs and driven in 17. |
